Welcome to my blog; A Darker Trantor.

I am not a photographer and nor do I claim to be, however this blog is dedicated to the photographing, appreciation and documenting the UK’s disappearing built environment. Dereliction and abandonment has long been a source of inspiration and fascination by artists and architects, perhaps as it reminds us of our own mortality. Similarly many people including myself find it fascinating how man-made structures, once awesome in their appearance and built to last; can so quickly be reclaimed by nature.

The name of the site has its origins in Issac Asimov’s Foundation trilogy. Trantor is the name of a planet where every square inch is covered by buildings, a place where urban and industrial sprawl extends around the equator and from pole to pole. In Britain’s cities, one may be forgiven for thinking they were in Trantor.
Please feel free to flick through my reports, and thanks for visiting.

I feel it very important to outline that Urban exploration often involves trespassing and  is a dangerous pursuit, best done with someone else. In addition I never use force to gain access to these buildings and never ‘break and enter’
I’m a true believer in the UE moto:
“take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints”

Whilst my explores may not be lawful, they do not result in the damage of any part of the building’s fabric or security features.
Please do not attempt to visit any of the places you see here as I can not be held responsible for anything which may happen to you, or anyone you may encounter.
